How About Search Ads AND Display Ads

Many online advertisers continue to struggle with the decision to use either search engine advertising or display advertising. Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, Microsoft AdCenter and the like, or good old fashioned banner displays. Both offer valid reasons, and each outperforms the other in different areas.

Why Not Use Both?

Perhaps you should consider using a combination of the two to truly get the most out of you campaign. There is a common belief that search engine advertising delivers a better return-on-investment, but according to Matt Lillig of the Yahoo Analytics Team, a combination is more likely to do so. He says that advertisers just aren't measuring display ads in the best fashion. He writes on the Yahoo Search Marketing Blog:

Specifically, many advertisers primarily use conversion percentage to measure the success of their display ads and search keywords. For example, if a display ad converts poorly (it has a low conversion percentage) then the advertiser typically lowers the budget for the ad, shifts the budget to another channel like search, or pulls the budget entirely.

The problem with only using the conversion metric method is that it is a “last click” metric. “Last click” means that the ad only gets credit for the last click the visitor made before they converted. For display ad and search keyword purposes, a last-click model doesn’t reveal the true value of the ad. For example, a display or search ad wouldn’t get the credit for driving conversions to other campaigns. This can be a major issue, as advertisers might end up cutting the budget on an effective display campaign that is driving additional conversions, brand awareness and increased visitor traffic to your web site.

He then goes on to discuss the "assist" metric in Yahoo Full Analytics, which measures the number of times that display ads or search keywords contribute to the conversion of another ad or keyword.

Things Have Changed

There is no question that Pay-Per-Click search engine advertising has gained tremendous popularity over the years with the rise of the services mentioned in the introductory paragraph. In their early stages, they appeared to be a fresh alternative to banner ads that seemed to be attracting less and less attention. Perhaps more importantly, they brought a relevancy to ads that was not really present in older display ad campaigns.

The fact that they were based on searches assured a targeted audience that was more likely to be interested in the products being advertised. This concept was and continues to be a very attractive one to advertisers.

However, display advertising platforms are now offering such a concept, which combines not only relevancy and targeting, but the branding power of eye-catching visuals. In addition, platforms like the Google AdWords Display Ad Builder, MySpace's MyAds, and others allow the advertisers themselves to easily create professional looking ads without having to go through designers or ad agencies.

And let's not forget the well-targeted method of email advertising, which happens to be the preferred method of small businesses for the holidays according to Constant Contact.

The New York Behind the Times

Let it be on record that in late 2008, the New York Times decided linking to other sites is acceptable for respected journalism operations. The headline, meant to be the replacement of the town crier, is heavy and sluggish with decrescendo: “Mainstream News Outlets Start Linking to Other Sites.”

I’ll save you the trip to the calendar. No, we haven’t time-warped back to the Nineties.

Here’s a headline that’s been obvious: Mainstream News Outlets Have Been Ignoring the Revolution.

Isn’t it kind of their job to monitor those things?

Anyway, Brian Stelter says not linking to outside sites has been “a long-held commandment of many newsrooms,” and that, it turns out, times they are a-changin’. No longer do news outfits have to pretend other news outfits don’t exist. (Here’s a secret: the audience knows there are other places.)

Why the change of heart? Easy: Everybody’s doing it. And by ‘everybody,’ they mean oft-maligned elite media, with noses pointed firmly skyward: the Washington Post, NBC, the Chicago Sun-Times, USA Today, TMZ.

They let TMZ into their parties because he always brings the girls and Jaeger. But in an article about linking out to other sources, TMZ still gets the cold shoulder. The link in the Time’s article points to NYT’s Topics page with NYT articles about TMZ. Better to learn from them than from that animal himself—you can never trust the nouveau riche, you know.

The reason that’s not a link directly to TMZ is because the NYT just doesn’t go around making drastic changes. Links from the Gray Lady will come from a special area on Blogrunner called “Times Extra.”

Wow. And they almost seemed to get it. From a user perspective, not linking out to a mentioned website is really annoying. If I want to find example.com, which isn’t linked in an article, I have to actually type it in a URL bar. That’s better than thinking a present link is to the actual site and finding out it’s actually to some internal page I had no interest in visiting in the first place.

The new acceptance of linking out comes at an interesting time, just a couple of months after Tim O’Reilly skewered mainstream sites for stingy with their link love. O’Reilly called it “a small tear in the fabric of the web.”

But I have a hunch it has less to do with being hip or with it, or with any type of unwritten law of online etiquette, and more to do with becoming a destination aggregation site like Google. Stelter says as much in his report, this Google-eyed wonder of search portals and the revenue they make.

Which is quite a conundrum in itself as to why people do this with no hopes of cashing in. Well fortunately there is actual logic in their seemingly aimless actions. When you have gathered a large collection of friends, you can monetize this in many ways, two of which are as follows. You could sell your account to someone else, or if you have a website, you can get your friends to visit it in order to make sales or simply raise your websites popularity.

Secondly, you can establish your Myspace page as a force to be loved. By developing the content on your page, and by offering a valid resource to the Myspace community, such as advice, reviews, tips, etc, you could funnel Myspace traffic directly to your Myspace page, This traffic can be directed elsewhere for profit. This diversion can occur by making buying or surfing suggestions to your Myspace audience.

Thirdly, you can offer advertising space on your Myspace page. This would be an excellent method to combine with the second method given. Advertisers would pay healthily for a chance to have an ad on your high traffic Myspace page.

Fourthly, you can give away free resources on your Myspace page such as templates, scripts and legal music. This will gain you many friends and develop the popularity of your service and page. You can also offer these same resources at higher qualities for a fee, outside of MySpace.

The Google Ranking Secret

 

Billions of people are surfing cyberspace, many of them wanting to spend money conveniently. If you have something to sell, how can you ensure they will find you before your competitors? The answer is simple - you need to make friends with the search engines and give the search engines what they want. The good news for you is, 95% of your competitors ignore this secret that is hidden in plain sight because it's too easy.

What is the secret hiding in plain sight? Search engines want fresh, quality content! They have always wanted fresh, quality content. They are in business to serve the masses so they are brutally picky about who makes it to the first page of search results. Yes, getting backlinks from quality websites is a factor but it means nothing without quality content.

One of my websites is relatively new. It has a Google PR3. That might seem an envious position. Using my Google Page Rank, I applied to one of those sites that pays for reviews. I was rejected. Why? Very little traffic. My site is generating a measly 300 unique visitors a month (May 2008). I just do not have enough quality content on that site as yet to make it attractive to sponsors.

So, you see, Page Rank is not always an indication of traffic. It simply means I have a number of back links from high quality sites. Google sees back links as votes. The more back links, the more votes, the higher the Page Rank. Quality content, on the other hand, is the secret to generating traffic. Not only that, quality is what leaves you there for years to come. Even if your site goes down, your quality content will still be found on the internet highway!

Quality content consists of profitable keywords and some solid information for your visitors. Don't make the mistake of producing content loaded with all sizzle and no steak. Your visitors can't eat sizzle. They need steak in the form of solid information they can use.

Concentrate on gathering every 'profitable' keyword, whether long tail or short and use them to craft your money terms which ultimately lets you rank high for very highly competitive keywords. Searches that are in the 5 figures a day.

Long tail are keywords of more than 2 words (less people searching) and a short tail is 2 or less words (more people searching). Remember long tail keywords are ONLY typed in by a searcher IF they can't find what they are looking for using short tail keyword phrases. If you provide solutions for short tail keyword searches then people won't leave your site to search on long tail keywords.

This is the secret hidden in plain sight that 95% of your competition is ignoring. They break away from the simple rules and try something extensively different and difficult because the simple methods seem too good to be true to work. That's their mistake that you can use to your advantage!

Stay away from fads. Save your money and make good use of your valuable time and effort doing what has always worked.

The boss of search engines is still Google. Follow what Google wants and you WILL be rewarded. It takes just as much time to cheat the search engines as it does to apply solid, honest techniques. The trickster will see his efforts vanish within 3 months. You will still be around making money.

The simple methods are here to stay and you need to never worry about algorithm changes as you will have the right structured site, with the right set of keywords and the right content that search engines will love. Whether you want to profit from AdSense, affiliates, your own product or service, these strategies will outperform 99% of all your competitors

When we submit to article directories, the good ones with PR 6 and above, we automatically get their pulling power when Google spiders visits their site. So, when you post an article on a high PR site, the chances are that you could extract Google spiders from the high PR site to yours.

This is really a late-to-post as i promised before. i'm late to post about this update since i've received email notification on June 19, 2008. this email told me that i got another 100$ payment from payu2blog. actually that amount is not too much for you maybe, but it worthy much for me. not only for the amount, but truly because it fuel my energy to continue blogging, especially with payu2blog.

Sending My 550 Dollars

Thanks God….that is the short word I could only say while I read my mail. Paypal notify that they have fully restored my account after about more then 3 months ago. As I told before that after limitation of my paypal account I could not do anything. Especially sent or withdraw my money.
