What is it about Maui, Hawaii that makes everyone want to go there? Sure, the climate is perfect - an even 80 degrees year round, surrounded by the ocean with salty breezes caressing your skin, palm trees dotting the sky everywhere you look, and plush hotels to thoroughly remove you from everyday life.

The Hawaiian Islands are basically big volcanic mountains that jut up from the bottom of the ocean providing enough land for plants, animals, and humans to live on. On Maui, the top of the volcanic mountain of Haleakala Crater rises to over 10,000 feet above sea level. That height rivals the Great Rocky Mountains.
But, because the surrounding area is mostly ocean, the clouds don't get pushed up above the peaks like they do in the Rockies. Not only is the hike or drive through Haleakala National Park full of amazing colors, desert, tropical wilderness, and waterfalls, you can hike up to the top and see the sunrise above the clouds.
Many people believe that the earth is just in a state of flux - a normal occurrence for the earth to adjust and stretch her legs. But, the simple fact is that there are more people on the planet than there ever has been.
