The trick is to make marketing fun. You need to be excited about your marketing efforts.
What makes Marketing fun?
Here are some great tips on how to make marketing fun.
* Keep Score - Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are important and they're fun to keep and to beat. For example, the number of phone calls, appointments, proposals, clients, etc.
* Marketing Calendar - Put together a marketing calendar for the entire year and keep track of your marketing initiatives. Nothing motivates staff more than activity. It should motivate you too. The more activity you have, the more results you should see. If you don't, well you need to talk to me!
* Sales Board - Keep your company accountable and on track by recording how many calls, prospects, and customers you're taking on every day/week/month/quarter.
* Attend Sales & Marketing Events - Keep an open mind and seek out new ways to get more done in less time, with more of a bang. Visit www.MarketingWorkshops.ca for a list of upcoming Marketing Seminars that will put your marketing efforts on steroids.
* Rewards - For you and your staff. Set milestones and targets for your new KPIs above and set corresponding rewards. For example, all-time appointments in one week could equal a luncheon brought in for your staff. Sales records hit for this month = a gift certificate for all your team members, and so on.
* Prizes and Competition - What have you done for your staff lately? What have you done for yourself? Everyone loves a bonus and perk and you'll find people work harder and have more fun doing so.
* Referral Program - Introduce a family and friends discount for your staff. Kick it up a notch and offer a commission to your staff for bringing in new business. Post the results in the lunch room and watch the staff get excited about who is going to win that trip to Hawaii for the all-time best sales quarter. The best part is you get to write it off and you qualify as well!
* Set Goals - Without goals, any road will take you there. Many small business owners lack the other, more important set of goals. Marketing Goals. For example, promotions, newsletters, campaigns, for this week/month/quarter. It's alot more fun then it sounds, so roll up your sleeves and get planning.
* Get a coach - Tiger Woods has several and didn't pick up golf by reading books or asking a friend. His coaches guide him and keep him on track to attain his goals. You'll spend more time and money trying to do it yourself. Get a qualified coach that'll bring you to the next level.
* Track Conversions - If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. You need to keep track of conversions and record them ongoingly. If it's not written, it's likely wrong data that'll lead you to making bad decisions. It's alot more fun to make decisions based on quality data.
* Promotions - The right promotion makes marketing your business easy. Sales becomes alot more fun when it doesn't feel like sales. Marketing does just that and promotions make it all come together almost effortlessly.
What do you do when no matter what you do marketing still isn't fun?
You've either not implemented all of the above or there are key elements missing. Marketing isn't easy and you don't have to do it all on your own. Get smart, get savvy, get results...
